The incident happened in New London at about 1 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 21, Connecticut State Police said.
A trooper was patrolling I-95 northbound on the Gold Star Bridge when a 2000 Toyota Camry passed him by traveling south in the northbound lanes, police said.
The trooper alerted dispatch, and police were able to pull the Toyota over in a Department of Transportation turnaround, authorities said.
State Police said the driver, identified as Edizon Chacha, of New London, was arrested for reckless driving.
After his arrest, he was given standard field sobriety tests, which he did not perform to standard, police reported.
Authorities said Chacha was subsequently charged with:
- Illegal operation of motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs
- Driving the wrong way on a divided highway
- Driving without a license.
He posted a $1,500 cash/surety bond and is set to appear in court on Wednesday, Jan. 4, State Police reported.
